Crazy to see the landscape change from flat to hilly on such a short trip. The fall colors show that change is an inevitable companion in life. We three wind the highways looking at a change that will send one of ours into the world away from the umbrella of security we created. It’s the first step toward his goals, goals that we want for him to obtain, that has us all up at 5 a.m. on a Saturday ready for ten hours on the road.
We know the changes for him are full of hope, expectations, and becoming the man he chooses to be. The changes for us are even more nebulous, a quiet house, an empty schedule, waiting for visits, phone calls. With all this in mind, the gravity of how monumental this trip maybe can’t be missed. Life will always weave its way into unforeseen weather and we can only huddle together and pray that we get to keep the bonds we build through these storms of uncertainty.
